Thanks to her role as a cast member on the popular reality TV series, The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Caroline Manzo has become somewhat of a household name. In fact, the 54-year-old Brooklyn native was even given her own spin-off series, Manzo’d with Children, which focuses on Manzo and her family. However, while some people might assume that a reality TV star’s life is an open book, that isn’t always the case. While people who choose to appear on these type of shows obviously don’t mind letting people into their lives, the cameras aren’t around all the time, and everyone still has things they’d much rather keep to themselves. Unfortunately for Manzo; however, she doesn’t have that luxury. Here are 10 things Caroline Manzo doesn’t want you to know.
Her son was arrested
In 2011, reports surfaced that Caroline Manzo’s son, Albie, was arrested for his involvement in a bar fight in the Dominican Republic during the filming of a season of RHONJ. Police said they couldn’t be sure who started the fight, but witnesses say that Albie and Joe Guidice (Teresa Guidice’s husband) were defending women.
Governor Christie called thinks her husband is a liar
It’s never a good thing to be called a liar, but it’s REALLY not a good thing when the governor of your home state calls you a liar. In 2011, New Jersey’s governor, Chris Christie, spoke openly about his feelings towards Caroline’s husband, Albert, who he believed had lied to get a local government position. He also thought it was ridiculous that Manzo listed his restaurant, The Brownstone, as his permanent address. Governor Christie in turn had Manzo removed from his position.
She’s getting older
Getting older is certainly nothing to be a afraid of, and it definitely beats the alternative (death). However, it’s something that no woman ever wants to admit, but the fact of the matter is that Caroline Manzo isn’t a spring chicken anymore. In fact, the reality TV star just turned 54 at the end of August, and while most women like to hide their age after a certain point, Manzo’s life in the spotlight makes that a little more difficult.
Her son was involved in the marijuana business
Recently, it was revealed that Caroline’s sun, Albie, is involved Colorado’s marijuana industry. However, Manzo has since clarified that Albie will not be growing or working with the planets directly. Instead, he will be working with a product that will make the plants grow faster. While Manzo isn’t ashamed of her son’s line of work, she definitely probably wishes things didn’t get misconstrued by the press.
Her husband cheated on her
Infidelity in a relationship is hard for anyone to deal with, but for people living in the public eye it can be even more difficult to face. Sadly, Manzo had to come to terms with the fact that her husband, Albert, cheated on her. She opened up about this in her memoir. According to sources, Albert had a long time mistress named Jill. Although Manzo was confronted about her husband’s relationship during taping of RHONJ, Bravo decided to keep it a secret because Manzo did not plan to return to the show. However, during the reunion, Manzo admitted that she questioned Albert about his behavior.
She shaves her face
This isn’t exactly a secret, because anyone who watches RHONJ would have seen Manzo doing this. However, before the show, shaving her face probably wasn’t something she ran around telling people about. Although it might seem weird for a woman to shave her face – especially if she doesn’t have facial hair – Manzo insists that this daily routine is good for her skin.
She’s ashamed of some her RHONJ behavior
Like many other people who have been on reality TV shows, Caroline Manzo isn’t exactly proud of the some of her behavior on the show. In fact, Manzo even said that this is part of the reason why she chose not to return to RHONJ. According to Manzo, “Over the past few years my outlook on the show has changed from something I couldn’t wait to show my future grandchildren to something I hope my future grandchildren never see. I’ve always prided myself on being a good example for my children and my decision to leave is based on advice I’ve always given them: ‘Be true to yourself and be proud of who you are, you are born with a name and you die with a name, don’t dirty it up.'”
Her fans hated her book
In 2013, Caroline Manzo wrote a book titled, Let Me Tell You Something. While she hoped her fans would be excited about her new project, their reaction to her work was anything but positive. Many of the readers gave the book negative reviews, and found Manzo to be obnoxious and narcissistic.
Her father-in-law was a mobster
Caroline Manzo’s father-in-law, Tiny Manzo, was a ‘mob enforcer’ who was exocuted mob style in 1983. According to New Jersey state police officer, Mike Russell, “Fat Tiny Manzo made the mistake of constantly needling top soldier Joe Zarra, humiliating him. Zarra just waited awhile for the heat to die down before clipping him as payback.”
She isn’t as tough as she seems
Although she often comes off like the strong Manzo matriach, there’s much more to Caroline than a tough persona. Sure, she is strong and willing to do what she has to do, she is a loving and caring wife and mother who only wants to be a good example for her family.
