JVC Jazz Festival New York Adds Clubs

The 2001 JVC Jazz Festival – New York (June 17-30) has added four new venues this year, and all are clubs: Birdland, Bowery Ballroom, Joe's Pub and Exit Art, a Soho gallery. The 29th annual festival has not abandoned its traditional concert venues either with seven concerts at Carnegie Hall, three at the Beacon Theater and two at Avery Fisher Hall.

Other venues include The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Hammerstein Ballroom, Riverside Church, Studio Museum in Harlem, and Bryant Park, the latter for free concerts.

Some of the artists booked are Nina Simone, Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock, Jack DeJohnette, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Joshua Redman, Diana Krall, Deodato, Cesaria Evora, Gato Barbieri, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Gladys Knight, JonFaddis and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and Johnny Griffin.
