Marina de Tavira is a Mexican actress. She is known for her role as Sofia in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2018 film Roma, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Marina is the daughter of María Lucila Isabel Servitje Montull and Juan Pablo de Tavira Noriega, who was a criminal lawyer. Her father was murdered, in a crime that has not been solved.
She is a niece of theatre director Luis de Tavira and his Argentinian-born wife, actress Rosa María Bianchi, and a cousin of their children, actors Pedro de Tavira Egurrola and José María de Tavira.
Marina’s paternal grandfather was Antonio Francisco de Tavira Moraleda (the son of Juan Pablo de Tavira and Marina Moraleda). Antonio was born in Mexico City, to Spanish parents, from Cabra, Córdoba and Madrid, respectively.
Marina’s paternal grandmother was Martha Georgina Noriega Olaguibel (the daughter of Clemente Jorge Daniel Noriega Barroeta and María Guadalupe Olaguibel Rosenzweig). Martha was born in Mexico City. Jorge was the son of Eduardo Noriega y Dávila Galindo and Guadalupe Barroeta Olivera. Marina’s great-grandmother Guadalupe was the daughter of Carlos Olaguibel y Arista and Eugenia Rosenzweig Georgievics de Apadia, who was from Temeswar, Kreis Temesch, Austria-Hungary (now Timișoara, Timiș, Romania), and had about one fourth Serbian and one fourth Aromanian ancestry. Carlos’ maternal great-uncle, Marina’s five times great-uncle Mariano Arista (José Mariano Martín Buenaventura Ignacio Nepomuceno García de Arista Nuez), was a Mexican general, who served as the 19th President of Mexico, from 15 January, 1851 to 6 January, 1853. Marina’s great-great-grandmother Eugenia’s father, Ferdinand (or Fernando in Spanish) Freiherr Rosenzweig von Drauwehr, was an Austrian military officer. Eugenia’s mother, Marina’s great-great-great-grandmother Katharina/Catarina Georgievics de Apadia/de Atavia, was a Hungarian princess, who was a lady in the court of Empress Carlota of Mexico.
Marina’s maternal grandfather was Lorenzo Servitje (Lorenzo Servitje Sendra, the son of Juan Servitje Torralardona and Josefina Sendra Grimau). Lorenzo was an accountant, businessperson, and philanthropist. He co-founded Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest bakery company. Lorenzo was born in Mexico City, to Spanish parents, from Catalonia. Josefina was the daughter of Jaime Sendra Palomas and María Grimau Mercadé/Morcadé.
Marina’s maternal grandmother was Carmen Montull Valles (the daughter of Daniel Montull Segura and Carmen Valles Gual). Marina’s grandmother Carmen was born in Mexico City. Daniel was born in La Salzadella, Castellón Espanha, Comunidad Valenciana, Spain, the son of Germán Montull and Nieves Segura. Marina’s great-grandmother Carmen was born in Mataro, Catalonia, Spain, the daughter of Jose Vallés Berart and Ana Maria Gual Voltas.
