Whoever is in charge of programming schedules at Netflix is feeling some type of way this week, clearly. Between the second season of Too Hot to Handle dropping on Wednesday and Netflix’s new original Sex/Life out Friday, it’s a banner week for spicy, trashy television.
The new series Sex/Life doesn’t really stray too far from the first half of its title for too long at any point in the series. But when it does, however, decide to make some room for the ‘life’ aspect, it tells the story of a young suburban housewife named Billie who begins to long for a fiery ex-boyfriend from her New York City party girl days. When her clean-cut husband finds her “diary,” which is just a Word doc open on her laptop in their massive Connecticut home, he hopes to reignite the spark in their relationship (read: have more sex). Inspired by BB Easton’s memoir 44 Chapters About 4 Men, this will fill the 50 Shades of Grey-shaped hole in your heart, if you have such a thing.
It doesn’t take too long for the viewer to get intimately acquainted with the actors in the series, but in case you wanted more, here’s a little background on the cast.
Sarah Shahi as Billie Connelly
AMANDA MATLOVICH/NETFLIX
A Texas-born former NFL cheerleader, Shahi has been acting for nearly two decades. She’s played smaller supporting roles on many well-known shows including The Rookie, Ray Donovan, Reba, Dawson’s Creek, and even The Sopranos, as well as acted alongside Sylvester Stallone in 2013 film Bullet to the Head and alongside Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet in 2014 film Road to Paloma. Say what you will about the depth of her role in Sex/Life, but it can’t be denied that Shahi can rock a nap dress.
Mike Vogel plays Cooper Connelly
SOPHIE GIRAUD/NETFLIX
A former model, Vogel plays the role of the stereotypical good husband in Sex/Life, who loves his kids and just wants to watch the big game after a long day of work without having to be seduced by his beautiful wife, damn it! Like Shahi, he’s played a variety of roles over the years, most notably in 2013 TV series Bates Motel, 2011 films What’s Your Number? and The Help, as well as opposite Blake Lively in 2005 teen film The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. The man has range.
